Joining Troop 101
Welcome
We are pleased to have this opportunity to show your Scout our exciting program. If you have any questions after reviewing the following information please contact us. Our number one goal is to provide a fun, learning experience for boys. Troop 101 has been chartered with the Boy Scouts of America since 1959. Our charter organization is the Windsor Road Christian Church, located at 2501 Windsor Dr., Champaign. Our Scouts come to us from several different Cub Scout Packs, and by way of friends in the Troop. Troop 101 Scouts attend one of the many elementary, middle, and high schools in the Champaign-Urbana area. The adult leadership of the Troop is comprised of both years of experience and the new ideas of new Scout parents, and even several Eagle Scout graduates of Troop 101. The Troop encourages and needs the participation of our Scout mothers and fathers.

Weekly Programs
Our weekly programs vary from week to week, and from patrol to patrol. Patrols are smaller groups of Scouts within the Troop. All Scouts are members of a patrol. The weekly activities includes scoutcraft, guest speakers, field trips, the planning of campouts, uniform inspections, advancements, group coordinated merit badge activities, and games geared toward leadership and teamwork. The Scout leaders, elected by the Scouts themselves, are responsible for planning and helping carryout activities of the weekly meetings.
Monthly Activities
Our weekend activities are normally once a month. These vary with the season and the desire of the Scouts. In recent years, we have camped in Shawnee National Forest, spent the night in Blue Springs Cavern in southern Indiana, visited the Boy Scout museum in Kentucky, and spent the night in a WWII submarine on Lake Michigan. We camp in interesting central Illinois recreation areas, too. We participate in local Prairieland Council activities every year, such as the Fall and Spring camporees, and the winter Klondike Derby.
Summer Adventures
Troop 101 is active year around. Summertime at Troop 101 means summer camp, and summer camp at Camp Drake is a favorite with the Scouts (normally planned for a week in the last half of June). High Adventure camping trips are scheduled at least every two years for experienced Scouts. These have included hiking in the mountains of the Philmont Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico; canoeing the vast waters of the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota; or sailing the Gulf of Mexico from the Boy Scouts Florida Keys Sea Base Camp.
Fun and Personal Development
Whether your Scout is interested in the social aspect of Scouting, in being the youngest Eagle Scout, or somewhere in-between we endeavor to offer the best possible program to all Scouts that enter Troop 101. We hope to see your Scout as a member of our Troop real soon.
By the way moms and dads have fun with the Troop, too.
